Bail Bonds Frequently Asked Questions

What Are Bail Bonds?
A Bail Bond is essentially an insurance policy that ensures the defendant will appear in court until the conclusion of their legal case. Once the of the processing of bail bond is complete, one of our bail bondsman will present the bond to the proper court of jurisdiction. At this point the bond will be posted and the authorities will be directed on the details of how and when the defendant will be released from jail.

What’s The Difference Between Bail and Bond?
When the defendant is arrested and processed, the judge will set an initial bal and bond amount.  Though these amounts may be different, they serve the same function:  to give the defendant an option to pay in order to get out of jail through the duration of the legal proceedings.  The main difference is that bail must be paid in full for a release to be guaranteed, whereas a bond is paid as a percentage of the total bond amount in order to secure the defendant’s release.

How Much Does A Bond Cost?
The amount paid for a bond depends on the set figures determined by the judge.  There are no set amounts, as there are individual factors that are considered when a bail and bond amount is established.

What Is Required For A Bond?
The surest way to make sure you have all the necessary documentation to process a bond, it’s best to call our office to determine exactly what is required.  However, to cover the basics of all bail bonds, here are the general requirements:
2 Forms of photo Identification- Both must be current/active
2 Pay stubs to prove ability to pay
Valid proof of address; Utility bill or tax return

What Is Collateral?
Collateral is typically required to secure a bond, as a form of security in case the bond is not repaid as agreed.  Colatteral also guarantees that the defendant will appear in court as scheduled.

What Counts As Collateral?
Cash - Depending on the bail amount
Property - Requires the deed and proof of good standing and equity
Business Assets- Business certificates or financial statements
Savings- Includes and stock options or Certificates of Deposit

When Do I Get Collateral Back?
Once your case has concluded, you are required to go to the court where the case was handed and get a certificate of disposition. Once you bring the certificate to the office where you initially acquired the bond, you will be issued a collateral check within 60 days.  The person that pledged collateral is the only person that may pick up the collateral check.
